All About Anthurium Plants – Its Symbolism & Significance
Anthurium is a genus of about 1000 species of flowering plants, the largest genus of the arum family, Araceae. The common names include anthurium, tailflower, flamingo flower, and laceleaf. Many species of Anthurium are grown as outdoor and indoor plants in mild climates in sheltered spots. They are herbaceous epiphytes that are native to Tropical America. The name is derived from two Greek words- oura meaning tail and anthos meaning flower. They are known for their bright colored flower spathes and ornamental leaves. The flower symbolizes hospitality, happiness, and abundance. Anthurium flowers are available in three main colors – white, red, and pink. The red ones denote love and passion, the white ones mean innocence and purity and the pink ones symbolize motherly love and compassion.
